Can you use Retina apps on the original iPad?  Is there backwards and forwards compatibility?   Of course it won't have screen resolution but will they still work?

If you notice on the App Store, they advertise native iPad apps as either "HD" or "... For iPad". They don't say "... For iPad 2" or for "... For iPad 1". So all new iPad apps that have been enhanced will work just fine on previous iPads, they wouldn't look as crispy but wouldn't look how phone apps look on iPad.
